AWARE Slams Overeasy Fill My Cups Promo – No Such Thing as Free Drinks

The recent buzz generated by the Overeasy Bar and Diner promotional tactics has been condemned by AWARE.
Overeasy has recently launched their “Fill My Cups” promotion targeting any ladies customers who visits the Overeasy Bar and Diner. Their women customers was eligible for free drinks on 16 January 2010. The catch is that the amount of drinks the ladies get depended on the size of their Cups. A Cups get 1 free drink. B Cups get 2 free drinks. C Cups get 3 free drinks. D Cups, get a free bottle of premium Vodka! The promotion appeared successful with many ladies taking advantage of the free drinks.

AWARE, the Association of Women for Action and Research, the Singapore’s leading women’s rights advocacy group, was however not pleased with the marketing gimmick.

AWARE believes that there is nothing free about letting a room of people stare at the customers’ cups. They asserted that even if a woman is willing to pay the personal price of loss of dignity, there is still a cost suffered by other women. In effect, the women who participated in the event have contributed to the objectification of women in general.
