Most men love women. Men love money.
Jack Neo has both money and women. He is 50 and had affair with 22 year old – not that everyone will or can do this but many lust for it. Call it human weakness if you want call it sin but there is nothing surprising in all this. Only hypocrites will stand up and condemn him. In today’s world the moral decay is evident – from the online prostution ads by PRCs arriving in Singapore by plane loads to the Edison Chen types – Jack Neo is far back in the queue of ‘most serious sinners‘.
The divorce rate is 30% of our marriage rate. Many if not most cause by extra-marital affairs. Men cannot be free to seek money without seeking lust. Today’s papers reported high profile corrupt chinese officials who were caught in recent days – every single one of them kept mistresses or were connoisseurs of high end hookers. The punishment in China for cooruption leading to greed and lust is DEATH. Yet death and hell cannot keep men from the sin of lust and greed.
Jack Neo is no worse and no better than the average Joe. All that is different is he is famous and very funny. Because he is famous and funny we expect him to have higher morality? That is not realistic. In the Chinese culture and the recent past, it was common for rich men to have ‘xiao lao poh’ aka concubines the 1st wife accept this and spends her time at majong tables (these days they can do it at IRs). The past was hardly more moral than the present. The past also represent the state the chinese society tried to struggle away from with communism only to see a return with its current mix of capitalism + communism.
Only poverty and religiousity brings morality. Financial crisis can bring morality. Wasn’t it in Money No Enough Part 1 when the character played by Jack Neo lost everything that he remembered how important family was over material things that he lost. Immorality brings pleasure without happiness can be seen as analogus or parallel with the ills of capitalistic greed that has infected all levels of our society. How are we to choose going ahead – poverty vs immorality, religiousity vs money (greed). We can run our society until it is devoid or meaning and happiness …it is when the human soul breaks down that we understand the real meaning of happiness and strive to have a society that gets there. It is not surprising that the American constitution have this line “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.
Jack Neo is merely a reflection of our current society, a society that pursues money over happiness and to pursue money you need greed and greed easily morphs to lust….and Jack Neo is the result…and there are thousands of Jack Neos around in our society.

Highly controversial and debatable, but quite true in many cases. People who condemn Jack Neo are not subjected to the same degree of temptation. How would they know they won’t do the same in his shoes? Probably a bunch of jealous hypocrites.
