How Much is One Trillion Dollars?

One Trillion Dollars! This is the number that we’ve been hearing so much about in recent months. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it’s a million million. It’s a thousand billion. It’s a one followed by 12 zeros. We are talking about a whole lot of money and cash here.
What can a trillion dollars get us? You can use it to buy all the equity stocks traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange. You can use it to buy a $3 cup of latte everyday, for 900 million years. When Singapore’s population reaches 5 million people, we can buy each of us a $2 plate of chicken rice everyday for the next 270 years.
Now let us watch the following video created by Jess Bachman for Mint.com and be impressed:
Excerpt:
It’s official, trillion is the new billion. No longer is government spending talked about in terms of a mere ten digits. One trillion dollars is a number that few people can comprehend, let alone your standard nine digit calculator.

But why this sudden interest in these big numbers? The main reason is all the attention on President Obama bailout plans for the US economy. And the plans involve an unprecedented amount of budget and debts that has to be incurred to support the economy.
I wonder. How much money do I need to earn and how well do I need to do in my career to be able to earn my first million dollars, if ever. But I am guessing most of us won’t be worse off than the Zimbabwe people who just got their $100 Trillion Dollar notes.
