Singapore Chinese PR Zhang Yuan Yuan Angers Singaporeans When She Proclaimed Love for Her Homeland China

Miss Zhang Yuan Yuan, age 28, is the new target of anger for some Singaporeans online when news of what she did was revealed to the netizens.
Zhang Yuan Yuan, a China PRC citizne, had studied in Singapore for 5 years and have landed a lucrative job in a Multi-National Company (MNC) here. She subsequently applied and obtained Permanent Residency in Singapore, which entitled her to carry a Blue-coloured National Registry Identity Card (NRIC), as opposed to Singaporean citizens who carry Pink-coloured NRICs.
However, out of her love for her homeland, China, Zhang Yuan Yuan decided to return to China to work in a state-owned enterprise despite protests from her friends and colleagues.
Soon after she returned to China, she jumped at the opportunity to join the women’s militia contingent which got to parade at China’s 60th National Day Parade.
During an interview with some CCTV reporters why she decided to participate in the physically demanding parade voluntarily, Zhang Yuan Yuan exclaimed that it has always been her greatest wish to repay her homeland (China).
The interesting point of the interview is that CCTV decided to flash her Singaporean NRIC during the segment. This eventually become the target for mockery by some China netizens. And the entire episode in turn incurr the wrath of some Singaporean netizens.

Some of the online comments include:
Stomper says: “This video shows how a PRC woman proudly denounces her Singapore pink IC to return to China. With the influx of Foreign Talents, can we afford to trust them? After this incident, are we to treat them as equals?”
charlize says: “For me, if she is a PR, up to her whether she wants to go back to China to participate in their national day parade since she is still a china national. But if she is a sg citizen, then it is not too nice. Means she changed citizenship twice – from china to sg and back to china.”
lego says: “Goes to show yet again that foreigners are just using S’pore as a stepping stone. Which foreigner in his or her right mind would take up S’pore citizenship, knowing how badly S’pore govt treats its own citizens???? They rather remain PRs or foreigners…..very little difference in terms of benefits….BUT no need to serve NS!!!”
cy says: “firstly, there’s nothing wrong in PR proclaiming loyalty to their own country, its normal.
the problem is that the govt in a wish to please PRs and new citizens, neglected old citizens and thus cause envy, resentment, anger, jealousy. it’s like a parent who dotes more on an adopted child than their own child. how will the own child feel?”

The original video which included the interview segment with Zhang Yuan Yuan in the first 1min 30sec of footage is shown below (In Chinese only):

People are just too emotional these days…
Those people who are angry at her are just jealous. Plenty of Singaporeans have immigrated overseas. Ask them what they think about Singapore and I can tell you most of them would probably feel the same way she does.
Zhang Yuan Yuan, a China PRC citizne, had studied in Singapore for 5 years and have landed a lucrative job in a Multi-National Company (MNC) here… HAHA! that is reminiscent of tons of PRCs in the labs of NUS. Well, so wat? We still continue to pay for their research scholarship from taxpayers money hoping that at least one or two miserable ones would stay and contribute, but truth is… Anyway, labs in NUS engineering are are all mini chinatown… just look at the websites…
you ppl got nothing to do these days…
i totally feel disgusted…aish!
save the time for upgrading yourselves so that you are as good as the
foreign talents to compete with them~
Instead of complaining and trying to condemn them.
So what if you succeed??
Singapore needs these PRCS to survive in this century due to our lack of resources.
Foreign talents Top in every field, how do we too? That is the question~
Giving scholarships to bright foreign students is a good thing. The problem with the government is that they are stingy with Singaporeans but generous to foreigners.
The government has not addressed the problem of Singaporeans being forced to spend large amounts of money on overseas degrees. For a start, it could subsidize the overseas education of these Singaporeans (provided they get into the top tier ones) in return, these Singaporeans come back after graduation to contribute. For the rest, they could give interest free loans.
This is the least they could do as due to their short sightedness, they did not build enough universities. For a population nearing 5 million, 3 or 4 universities are too few. We should be looking at 8, 9 universities.
The government should also be stringent with taxpayers’ money. Some foreign students run away immediately after they graduate even though they are bonded. The attempts to recover liquidated damages are weak. Pity Singaporeans.
Singaporeans never fail to exhibit how stupid they are and how quick they jump to conclusions.
Zhang is just a Singapore PR, not a citizen. What kind of “citizenship” did she “denounce”?
Oh, suddenly Singaporeans are all patrioitic now?
