Ris Low, Miss Singapore World 2009 and Spoof Videos of Her Razor TV Interview
Miss Ris Low, one of the most talked about Singaporean beauty pagenat winner in recent years after Miss Rachel Kum, was crowned Miss Singapore World 2009 on 31 July 2009.
“It was my first time taking part in the finals of a beauty pageant so I didn’t think I would win,” said the 19-year-old student at Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) studying “Diploma in Health Science, Hospitality and Travel Tourism”.
The victory for the 1.72m tall Ris Low is bitter sweet as she had been recovering from a rather bad cold in the week of the contest, with a fever hovering at around 39 Degrees Celcius.
She will be in London, Dubai and South Africa in November to take part in the global finals.
As part of her preparations, she will be attending grooming classes. “I’ll also try to improve my speech and my walk,” she added.
In the mean time, the online community in Singapore has been rather harsh on the choice of Ris Low as the person representing Singapore. The furore started after her video interview by The Straits Times Razor TV below:
Many netizens made fun of her bad Singaporean-style English, known locally as Singlish, and thought that it will be embarrassing when she becomes the face of Singapore on the internatinal stage.
In fact, other than the insults and names-calling, some famous local bloggers even made up 4 spoof videos to make fun of Ris Low. Check them out below:

I used to see this as…really funny…all the reports and fun made out of Ris Low…it has been hilarious for personal entertainment
BUT…BUT…I came to think about the recent New Paper article that asked…don’t many other Singaporeans speak like that? and if we were to put ourselves in Ris Low position…it must be extremely depressive right now…and the confidence is at a possible all time low
She did mentioned she is going to take up speech lessons. Let’s see how it goes from there and if she can really make an impressive turn from this scenario…
If she is smart…she will make this weakness a strength of hers …(e.g. of how she overcome her problem in speaking, then this will certainly then create an impact)

Rachel Kum is alot more prettier than her.

Seriously, I think Kumar in drag mode has a far greater chance of winning/not getting eliminated early in any international pageant than any of these young fuglies.
