Super Packed MRTs: Is Singapore Becoming Like Japan?

mrt very crowded in singapore

Recently, there are much online discussions regarding the state of Singapore’s MRT (aka Metro/Railway) system in Singapore, with many netizens complaining that the trains are getting way too crowded. Some people said that it is particularly worse at popular stations such as Jurong East and Woodlands MRT stations. Commuters often are not able to squeeze into the packed trains and have to wait for the next few trains to get their turn. Are we going the way of the Japanese, who have one of the most crowded trains in the world? Take a look at the following videos comparisons.

Japanese Subway during Rush Hour

Singapore MRT during Peak Hour: Jurong East Interchange

Singapore MRT during Peak Hour: City Hall Towards Dhoby Guat

Perhaps Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) should take a leaf out of the Japanese’s books and employ people to help “push” our Singaporean commuters into the train.

I agree with you, the MRT’s are getting very packed recently. I hate having to squeeze into the train, and my everyday commute is more like an everyday torture!

For those of you who hate commuting as much as I do, I came across this site (http://www.sgcommute.com) that let people vent their frustrations! Maybe if enough of us contribute our horror stories someone will notice.
